Serena Saunders

Serena Saunders graduated from Bel-Rea Institute of Animal Technology in 2008. After graduation, she worked in shelter medicine at Denver Dumb friends league before moving to California to take over a family business as a marina manager. During this time, she completed a bachelor’s degree in business management online. After 10 years working as a manager, marking consultant, and software developer in the marina industry, she returned to her original passion for working with animals. Serena has since moved back to the Denver area, working as a veterinary technician and then clinic manager. Not feeling fulfilled in her role in private practice, she left to start work for Soul Dog rescue as a transport driver and volunteer surgery technician. She has fostered and done rescue for California Bully Crew, Denver Dumb Friends League, and Soul Dog.

Most recently, Serena returned to school and completed a graduate certificate in project management from CSU. She will be attending the University of Denver in the Fall to complete a certification in Animals and Human Health while also completing a Master’s degree in Organizational Leadership.

I have eight dogs at her house currently. Three of them are feral foster puppies with no human connection at all. She has 4 permanent dogs who are also all rescues. She also has a bird, a cat, a fish, and a lobster. Serena has extensive experience with animals both professionally and personally. She enjoys spending time with her 13-year-old daughter Shaylene and their dogs. They love to get up to the mountains to ski and snowboard in the winter. In the summer they love being on the lake or enjoying the outdoors!

She is also in recovery.
